Giants

Louis made me do it...hahah.

Wise old Nestor was a young boy at the time of the first Olympic games in 776 BC and in his 90s in 687 BC at the fall of Troy.

The Iliad, Book I, (247-269):

...and between them Nestor the fair-spoken rose up, the lucid speaker of Pylos, from whose lips the streams of words ran sweeter than honey. In his time two generations of mortal men had perished, those who had grown up with him and they who had been born to these in sacred Pylos, and he was king in the third age.

He in kind intention toward both stood forth and addressed them: 'Oh, for shame. Great sorrow comes to the land of Achaia. Now might Priam in truth be happy, and all the rest of the Trojans be visited in their hearts with gladness, were they to hear all this wherein you two are quarreling, you who surpass all Danaans in council, in fighting. Yet be persuaded. Both of you are younger than I am.

Yes, and in my time I have dealt with better men than you are, and never once did they disregard me. Never yet have I seen nor shall again see men as these were, men like Peirithoƶs, and Dryas, shepherd of the people, Kaineus and Exadios, godlike Polyphemos, or Theseus, Aigeus' son, in the likeness of the immortals. These were the strongest generation of earth-born mortals, the strongest, and they fought against the strongest, the beast men living within the mountains, and terribly they destroyed them. I was in the company of these men...
And also from Hebrew sources: Genesis 6

And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,

6:2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.

6:3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

6:4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
Numbers 13:33, "And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight."

And from Velikovsky: Giants.

The traditions of peoples all over the world are quite unanimous in asserting that an an earlier time a race of giants lived on the earth, that most of the race were destroyed in great catastrophes; that they were of cruel nature and were furiously fighting among themselves; that the last of them were exterminated when after a cataclysm a migration of peoples brought the forebears of the peoples of today to their new homelands.

The Japanese narrate that when their forefathers after a great catastrophe about two and a half or three thousand years ago, came from the continent and invaded the isles, they found there long-legged, furry giants. These giants were called Ainu. The forefathers of the Japanese were defeated in the first encounter, but in the second encounter they were victorious.

Ixtlilxochitl described the wandering of peoples of the western hemisphere in the four ages of the world. The first age came to its end in the Flood. In the second age, called “the sun of the earthquake,” there lived the generation of the giants, which was destroyed in the cataclysm that terminated this age. The third period was “the sun of the wind,” called so because at the end of this period terrible hurricanes annihilated everything. The new inhabitants of the new world were Ulme and Xicalauca who came from the east to find a foothold at Potouchan: here they met a number of giants, the last survivors of the second catastrophe. The fourth age was called “the fire sun,” because of the great fire that put an end to this epoch. At that time the Toltecs arrived in the land of Anahuac, put to flight by the catastrophe: they wandered for 104 years before they settled in their new home.

Also F. L. Gomara in his Conquista de Mexico, in the chapter about “cinco soles que son edades,” wrote:

The second sun perished when the sky fell upon the earth; the collapse killed all the people and every living thing; and they say that giants lived in those days, and that to them belong the bones that our Spaniards have found while digging mines and tombs. From their measure and proportion it seems that those men were twenty hands tall—a very great stature, but quite certain.(1)

  1. OiM - 20 hands tall? I recollect we measured horses by hands and an Arab stallion would be about 15.5 hands, while a thoroughbred showjumper would get to 17 hands, maybe. (Measured from ground to withers).

So the Spanish meaning of a hand would not be per above, obviously.

I wonder what the old Spa nish usuage was.

  2. MIXING BUSINESS WITH PLEASURE: ANOTHER "GIANT" COCKTAIL, PLEASE

Who says you can't mix business with pleasure...

Although the rule to remember is take care of business first, and save the pleasure for later...

...speaking of GIANTS, it seems Saudi Arabia has it's fair share.

Readers of the Oil Is Mastery website are familiar with Ghawar (no, not the rock band that sprays [....] into the mosh pit) the largest oil field in the world.

Well, it seems you can't keep a big giant down. A lobe of the famed giant oil field is being brought on line in reserve capacity (hat tip Brewskie). This "lobe" known as Khurais oil field will add 1.2 million barrels a day in spare capacity, bringing Saudi Arabia's spare capacity total to 4.5 million barrels a day (read 'em and weep, Cliff "Peak" Wirth).

Read the story: Saudi Arabia to More Than Double Spare Capacity, Al-Naimi Says, 2/11/09(Bloomberg) -- "Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest oil exporter, will more than double its spare capacity by the middle of the year to 4.5 million barrels a day as it brings the massive Khurais project on stream while cutting production with OPEC."

Saudi Arabian Oil Minister Ali al-Naimi is a smart man, read his oil wisdom in the story. Saudi Arabia is doing its part to rationalize the oil market.

Now that we've taken care of business, let's mix in the pleasure...

...we were speaking easy of giants, well, it seems Saudi Arabia has giant skeletons, too.

One of the hottest photos making the rounds on the internet circuit is a picture from Saudi Arabia of a giant skeleton that the Saudi government tried to keep hush, hush...they failed.

The YouTube video: giant humans. they were real! leads off with the Saudi Arabian behemoth, trust me those pearly whites belong to the famed Saudi Arabian giant skeleton.

The video goes on to show numerous other pictures of giant skeletons, some more convincing than others, I grant you, but some seem very convincing...

Come on, can't we have a little slap & tickle fun while we're at it...

Oh, the splendors of of mixing business with pleasure...

  3. GIANTS IN THE HOLY LAND!

"Although the rule to remember is take care of business first, and save the pleasure for later..." -- Anaconda, 2009

Seems the holy land, also has its fill of giants...of a different kind...

Maybe those crusaders, a thousand years ago, weren't just into the joys of pillage & plunder...

"Noble Energy Inc. said its Tamar natural-gas discovery off the coast of Israel is probably 61 percent larger than initially estimated when announced last month."

"Tamar’s potential is 5 trillion cubic feet, based on initial flow testing, Houston-based Noble Energy said today in a statement. Flow rate from the well was 30 million cubic feet per day, limited by the testing equipment, and production may reach 150 million cubic feet a day, the company said."

See story: Noble says Israel discovery likely larger than thought, 2/10/09(Houston Chronicle) from Bloomberg news service.

Get the scoop from the original Noble press release: Noble Energy Announces Significant Natural Gas Discovery at Tamar Well Offshore Israel, HOUSTON, January 17, 2009 -- "Noble Energy, Inc. (NYSE: NBL) announced today a natural gas discovery at the Tamar prospect in the Matan license, offshore Israel. The Tamar #1 well, located in approximately 5,500 feet of water, was drilled to a total depth of 16,076 feet [about 56 miles off the Israeli northern port of Haifa] to test a subsalt, lower-Miocene structure in the Levantine basin. Formation logs identified more than 460 feet of net pay in three high-quality reservoirs. The thickness and quality of the reservoirs encountered were greater than anticipated at the well location."

Hmmm...another huge subsalt hydrocarbon find. And, it turns out to be 61% bigger than originally thought.

Oil geologists have identified abyssal salt formations in the Mediterranean Sea where large hydrocarbon deposits are located under a layer of thick salt, thus called subsalt or presalt oil and gas deposits. The salt formations are found in deep waters around the world -- mostly in virgin unexplored oil territory.

Strike up another one for the band (read 'em and weep, Cliff "Peak" Wirth).

"Now that we've taken care of business, let's mix in the pleasure..."

    What's a good mixer...a blond and a brunette...he, he

Oops...forgot, need to get back to the giants...no, not those set of giants...

As the post relates biblical references were made about giants.

Seems, there was a whole region of giants that kept making trouble for the "little people", bad ass giants they were, so they had to be slain.

You know what they say, "the bigger they are, the harder they fall."

    Giants in the Holy Land

    Abraham and the Giants

"Biblical and historical records, along with credible archaeological evidence, show that when Abraham pulled up his tent stakes at Ur of the Chaldeans and moved his family and flocks to Canaan, many giants already occupied Transjordan. The scriptures also say that when this first Hebrew patriarch later established his headquarters at Hebron, he lived for some years among the Anakim giants who founded that city."

Yikes, a whole land of the giants...wasn't that a T.V. show?

    ...back to your regular programming...

  4. Hmm...reminds me of the time people mistook a Megalosaurus thigh bone for the scrotum of giant humans. Interesting post, OiM.

  5. Anaconda,

you are a genius! Thanks for the links to the gian skeletons - now the tricky bit is to verify them via documentation or whatever.

  6. The irritating aspect of this is the photoshop hoax - so some can be immediately rejected, what a wretched time waste, but given the existence of the histories and the megalithic monuments, somewhere there must be evidence.

  7. @ Louis Hissink:

    Thanks.

You are quite right about the photoshop angle, how does one seperate hoaxes from actual evidence?

Needless to say, both my comments were somewhat tongue-in-cheek. (The oil & gas stories are the verifiable giants). On the other hand, the fact that huge stones have been carved and moved by Man exist with no ready explanation -- I hadn't thought of giants as a possibility -- does leave a mystery.

What I have learned from my experience with scientific certainties, is that many "certainties" are assumptions which don't bare up to close inspection.

Follow the evidence with an open-mind and that includes some ideas that at first blush seem unlikely, if not impossible.

Where will the hunt for giants end up? I have no idea.

One objection to the concept of giant skeletons being found is that they would end up on the cover of National Geographic magazine...I'm not so sure.

To find giant skeletons goes gainst the received narrative.

There are many interested parties to paleontology and archeology that have no interest in finding "giants".

Again, my experience leads me to believe the status quo interest has as much to do with "science", today, as the search for the underlying reality.

    Sad, but true.

  8. Anaconda,

Finding fossil evidence for giants seems to be difficult. Trying to explain the megalithic monuments even more so.

While it's interesting, I've got to distract myself from this and concentrate of professional matters affecting the global mineral exploration industry - its sort of collapsed in Australia, (It's $1billion per yer in Western Australia) which the politicians and bureaucrats here don't understand.

So posts from me might be a bit light on this week - have to pen something on this for the Henry Thornton site.

  9. This is such great stuff! I can't tell you how much of a grip the history in the Bible has on me. I have always wanted to search for Noah's Ark. At least now I can do it through Google Earth!
The flood story belongs to over 300 different culture's on this earth. My theory is that as the few survivors spread out on earth, they took the story with them. Being such a traumatic event, it was very important to them .
