According to Poseidonius, one of the most careful and accurate observers and scholars in world history, the discovery of the atom predates Leucippus and Democritus and goes back to even before Trojan times.
"The Sidonians, according to tradition, are skilled in many beautiful arts, as the poet [Homer] also points out; and besides this they are philosophers in the sciences of astronomy and arithmetic, having begun their studies with practical calculations and with night-sailings; for each of these branches of knowledge concerns the merchant and the ship-owner; as, for example, geometry was invented, it is said, from the measurement of lands which is made necessary by the Nile when it confounds the boundaries at the time of its overflows. This science, then, is believed to have come to the Greeks from the Aegyptians; astronomy and arithmetic from the Phoenicians; and at present by far the greatest store of knowledge in every other branch of philosophy is to be had from these cities. And if one must believe Poseidonius, the ancient dogma about atoms originated with Mochus, a Sidonian, born before the Trojan times. However, let us dismiss things ancient." -- Strabo, geographer, 7
"Can we not read into them some justification for the belief that some former forgotten race of men attained not only to the knowledge we have so recently won, but also to the power that is not yet ours?" -- Frederick Soddy, radiochemist, The Interpretation of Radium, 1909
"We've located series of civilizations, nine of them definitely, and indications of others as well, all of which have reached heights comparable to our own, and all of which, without exception, were destroyed by fire at the very height of their culture." -- Isaac Asimov, writer, 1941
"I mean, there were huge battles that took place in Europe during World War II. And you can go back to those places now. I mean, there should be, you know, just tons of equipment and stuff lying around. But it's not there. You can hardly find a thing. So I think, over millions of years, there can be a lot of destruction." -- Michael A. Cremo, author, August 2006

Whilst the copper ores were the main objectives of the ancient mining, numerous other toxic metals are present in significant quantities, including minerals such as thorium and uranium
OIM,
ReplyDeleteThere are much better weapons in Mahabharata, with detailed description of the effects. The problem is there are no traces of radioactivity, or technological civilization. Most of the weapons belong to devas (deus greek?), but these devas were not wimps the way you describe them. Also, they gave out these weapons at random, to any who pleased them! And, one needs to know appropriate mantras in Sanskrit to release a weapon: realtime targeting, but these mantras are not given...
KV,
ReplyDelete"There are much better weapons in Mahabharata, with detailed description of the effects."
True but that was possibly at an earlier and more developed stage of devolution.
"... there are no traces of radioactivity, or technological civilization"
This nonsense proves you obviously have no idea what you're talking about. There is ancient radiation all over the place.
There are so many traces it's hard to keep track of them all.
Check this out: "Whilst the copper ores were the main objectives of the ancient mining, numerous other toxic metals are present in significant quantities, including minerals such as thorium and uranium ...."
OIM,
ReplyDeleteYour first link talks about the stuff 2.5 billions years ago, and it talks about natural causes, not man-made.
Today's copper mines are also toxic, and trace elements including radioactive, but again, nothing in quantitiy that would allow one to build nuclear weapons. If this were to be the case, every nation would have nuclear weapons.
You fail to show technological competence and infrastructure of any ancient civilizations to build and use "atom bombs". Old structures are not the proof for technological infrastructure.
Finally, natural disasters are much more powerful than the bombs and ancients could be writing science fiction of their time, or simply were obsfucating as they did not really understand like you.
KV,
ReplyDelete"If this were to be the case, every nation would have nuclear weapons."
Not with people like you in charge of their research programs. People like you don't realize that atoms are millenia old.
OIM,
ReplyDeleteSuper Lilly time! Take the triple dose! You personal attack mode has taken over. Take a walk, breath and let these old dead farts go! They are dead!!
KV,
ReplyDeleteAren't you thankful I taught you how to spell?
OIM,
ReplyDeleteSpelling is the least of my concern, but I try for you so that you don't have to visit Lilly! Got it?
