Modern Man Less Evolved Than Cave Men

Reuters via NY Daily News: Modern man a wimp, says anthropologist Peter McAllister in 'Manthropology'.

LONDON - Many prehistoric Australian aboriginals could have outrun world 100 and 200 meters record holder Usain Bolt in modern conditions.

Some Tutsi men in Rwanda exceeded the current world high jump record of 2.45 meters during initiation ceremonies in which they had to jump at least their own height to progress to manhood.

Any Neanderthal woman could have beaten former bodybuilder and current California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in an arm wrestle.

These and other eye-catching claims are detailed in a book by Australian anthropologist Peter McAllister entitled "Manthropology" and provocatively sub-titled "The Science of the Inadequate Modern Male."

McAllister sets out his stall in the opening sentence of the prologue.

"If you're reading this then you -- or the male you have bought it for -- are the worst man in history.

"No ifs, no buts -- the worst man, period...As a class we are in fact the sorriest cohort of masculine Homo sapiens to ever walk the planet."

Delving into a wide range of source material McAllister finds evidence he believes proves that modern man is inferior to his predecessors in, among other fields, the basic Olympic athletics disciplines of running and jumping

  1. Actually, we're evolved enough! The reason Homo neanderthalensis went extinct is because our gracility gave us a chance advantage that they were unfortunately lacked because of their bulk. We ARE more evolved, intelligence-wise and, besides it depends on what you mean by "cave-men." If you mean, Homo sapiens, then we developed our advanced mind through observation and experimentation (or, simply, Science.)

And, another thing! That Linear "Evolution" is INACCURATE!! Ever heard of "The Tree of Life." That concept is the BEST model for Evolution, be it Lamarckism (Epigenetics, or Epi-Genome) and Natural Selection which work together to perpetuate life on Earth WITHOUT a "Divine Entity!"

  2. RL,

OIM does not believe in evolution, he believes aliens created humans, seven times stronger etc...

Now, if OIM were to start wearing a tin-foil hat, things would improve.

  5. There is no such thing as "Less Evolved."

We've been over this. Modern humans are as much a product of our environment as those born a hundred thousand years ago.

In fact, we can be said to be further derived, but nothing alive is "less evolved" than something that lived in an earlier age.

If they were better at some thing, so what? I should imagine that a velociraptor was a lot better at dismboweling a ceratopsian than any duck born today.

  6. Arie,

Why can't we let the science be, stumblingly marching to more perfect knowledge, without invoking old dead farts, and even the book and proclaimed personalities in and of the books?

OIM, get tin-foil, and, a fair maiden. The one in pic is nice, and might have the same inclination as you, to procreate dumbs.

  7. Jeffery,

If I had said devolved I would've confused you so I deliberately wrote "less evolved."

It sure would have confused me, since neither term is correct in reference to your post.

Devolve is a Tech-Death Metal band from Australia.

What your post is talking about is reduced physical prowess. Again... raptors and ducks, right?
