Archaeological Evidence Confirms Veracity of The Bible

Note Tiglath's expensive wrist watch!

Science Daily: Archaeologists Find Cache Of Tablets In 2,700-year Old Turkish Temple.

“Tayinat was destroyed by the Assyrian king Tiglath-pileser III in 738 BCE, and then transformed into an Assyrian provincial capital, equipped with its own governor and imperial administration,” says Harrison. “Scholars have long speculated that the reference to Calneh in Isaiah’s oracle against Assyria alludes to Tiglath-pileser’s devastation of Kunulua – ie, Tayinat. The destruction of the Luwian monuments and conversion of the sacred precinct into an Assyrian religious complex may represent the physical manifestation of this historic event.”

The temple was later burned in an intense fire [a.k.a. conflagration] and found filled with heavily charred brick and wood which, ironically, contributed to the preservation of the finds recovered from its inner chambers.

So bats are birds and the Earth is only 6000 years old?

Will I also go to Sha'al for eating shrimp?

The rabbit, though it chews the cud, does not have a split hoof; ... (Leviticus 11:6)

... The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved. (1 Chronicles 16:30)

"The fact is that some archaeological discoveries in confirming part of the Bible simultaneously cast doubt on the accuracy of other parts. The Moabite Stone, for example, corroborates the biblical claim that there was a king of Moab named Mesha, but the inscription on the stone gives a different account of the war between Moab and the Israelites recorded in 2 Kings 3. Mesha's inscription on the stone claimed overwhelming victory, but the biblical account claims that the Israelites routed the Moabite forces and withdrew only after they saw Mesha sacrifice his eldest son as a burnt offering on the wall of the city the Moabites had retreated to (2 Kings 3:26-27). So the Moabite Stone, rather than corroborating the accuracy of the biblical record, gives reason to suspect that both accounts are biased. Mesha's inscription gave an account favorable to the Moabites, and the biblical account was slanted to favor the Israelites. The actual truth about the battle will probably never be known." The post title has little to do with the archaeological discovery itself. We should expect mythology to include real place names, real persons, and so on to make it more familiar and palpable to its audience. What's surprising isn't the parts of biblical mythology that are supported by archaeology, rather the amount of archaeology that isn't supported by biblical mythology.

What Biblical mythology?

The Bible is not a science textbook. It is a book of legends, fables, parables and wild inaccuracies...all of it orally transmitted for vast stretches of time.

On one hand, Oils, you say that humanity is 500 million years old, and now, by coming out as a Biblical Literalist (an indefensible position at best) you are saying the universe itself is 10000 years old.

Jeffrey Keown,

I think you will find that the word used was "world" not earth.

One could state that the Christian world started at 0 AD, or the Islamic world at 752 AD.

The ancient authors could not possibly have meant the Earth in their writings.

The Bible - Old testament is essentially Jewish history.

Unsurprising that new archaeological evidence would confirm such records.

Of course what is really at issue is whether the translations from the original languages was accurate - and in this sense there is much stupidity to be found among its critics.

As well as its proponents... Ken Ham, Kent Hovind, Oils, Carl Baugh, you name it, when you subscribe to Biblical Literacy, you've lost the game.

Nowhere in the Bible does it say the Earth is 6000 years old or 10000 years old. You are confusing theism with Young Earth Atheism.

Young Earth Atheism

Do you pull this shit out of a Scrabble Bag?

Explain that term, please.

CFeagans said...

I, too, am curious what "young earth atheism" is.

What's surprised me the most is the vast amount of archaeological evidence that contradicts evolution and confirms the truth of the Bible.
What archaeological evidence contradicts evolution? I'm very curious about this. In addition, what specific "truth of the bible" do you subscribe to? Many would call a young earth "truth of the bible," yet you don't appear to -would this make you a heretic?

OilIsMastery said...

Some say that Homo sapiens are only 195,000 years old. I call them Young Earth Atheists because they do not believe humans existed prior to 195,000 years ago.

All of the customarily ignored evidence that demonstrates extreme human antiquity. Sharks, echinoids, octopuses, humans, are not evolving into anything. Nor are the protozoa evolving into anything. The sphenodon, alleged to be the fastest evolving animal, hasn't had it's phenotype change in over 180 million years. See sidebar for details.

"In addition, what specific 'truth of the bible' do you subscribe to?"

"...the Lord cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died..." -- Joshua 10:11

"And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed..." -- Joshua, 10:13

"Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee. Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame...." -- Isaiah 37:13-14

"...and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit." -- Revelation 9:1-2

With except to "humans," none of the above has anything to do with archaeology. And archaeology clearly shows the fact of evolution in H. sapiens.

With regard to your cherry-picked passages of biblical mythology, we are to take it, then, that you cherry-pick your biblical truths?

Only an idiot is gullible enough to believe that Homo sapiens magically and miraculously appeared out of nowhere for no reason in Ethiopia 195,000 years ago.

Here is some more historical truth for you to ignore:

"And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord God, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day:" -- Amos 8:9

"Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down in the sun dial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward. So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down." -- Isaiah 38:8

"Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day." -- Joshua 10:13

Here is archaeological evidence that contradicts the falsified 19th century hypothesis evolution:

"Scientists have recently announced the discovery in Kenya of some interesting footprints, found in layers of rock about 1.5 million years old. Researchers describe them as anatomically modern. That is to say, the foot structure is the same as in human beings like us. But most scientists today would never even dream of suggesting that the footprints were made by humans like us. According to their understandings, humans like us did not exist 1.5 million years ago. We had not evolved yet. Most scientists now believe the first humans like us came into existence about 150,000 years ago. So the Kenya footprints are ten times too old for modern humans. So the scientists attributed the footprints to the apeman called Homo ergaster, which some scientists believe to be a kind of Homo erectus. The problem is that we do not know what the Homo erectus foot structure was really like. No one has ever found a foot skeleton of Homo erectus. So at the present moment, the only creature known to science that has a foot just like that of a modern human being is in fact a modern human being, like us. Maybe in the future someone will find a foot skeleton of Homo erectus (or Homo ergaster) that is fully modern in it’s anatomy. But that has not been done yet. So if we are going to stick to the facts, to the evidence that we really have, then the most reasonable thing we can say is that the scientists in Kenya have found evidence that humans like us existed 1.5 million yeas ago. And this contradicts the current evolutionary accounts of human origins." -- Michael A. Cremo, author, February 2009

"... we could also consider the shoe print, you know, that was found near Antelope Springs Utah by William Meister. And he found that in the year 1968. He was a researcher, a collector of fossils, and he was breaking open pieces of slate rock at this place Antelope Springs and when he broke open one piece of rock he found a shoe print. You know, my coauthor Richard Thompson went to visit William Meister in Utah and he was able to see this specimen, he was able to take photographs of it, and we did a computer analysis, and we showed that the shape of this impression in the rock is exactly like that of a shoe print. And if you look at your shoe, at the bottom of your shoe, you can usually see where your heel is worn down in a certain place, so this print had that same feature in it and also crushed in the middle of the foot print was the fossil of a trilobyte. Now a trilobyte is a shellfish that existed about 500 million years ago in what's called the Cambrian Period." -- Michael A. Cremo, author, March 19th 2008

"Taken together with recent finds from Klasies River, Katanda and other African Middle Stone Age sites the Blombos Cave evidence for formal bone working, deliberate engraving on ochre, production of finely made bifacial points and sophisticated subsistence strategies is turning the tide in favour of models positing behavioural modernity in Africa at a time far earlier than previously accepted." -- Christopher S. "In Extinct Humans, Ian Tattersall and Jeffrey Schwartz present convincing evidence that many distinct species of humans have existed during the history of the hominid family, often simultaneously. Furthermore, these species may have contributed to one another’s extinction. Who were these different human species? Which are direct ancestors to us? And, the most profound question of all, why is there only a single human species alive on Earth now?" -- Westview Press, 2001

"Therefore our first charge against Darwin is this: He says there were no human beings millions of years ago. That is not a fact. We now see human beings existing along with all other species, and it should be concluded that this situation always existed. Human life has always been there. Darwin cannot prove that there was no human life millions of years ago." -- Srila Prabhupada, guru, 1999

"Again on 1st June 1968, William Meister was climbing a cliff searching for trilobite fossils in the Wheeler Formation in Utah. He broke off a 5 cm thick lump of rock that split open in his hand revealing trilobite fossils embedded in the heel of a sandal print that had toe impressions poking over the edge. He called in Dr. Clifford Burdick, a consulting geologist who found several more sandal prints in the shaly limestone, and the footprints of barefoot children, one with a trilobite in the instep." -- Barry Setterfield, geologist, June 1998

All that and not a shred of archaeological evidence for your claim that archaeology promotes an idea which states that H. sapiens appeared either magically or miraculously at any point in time.

But then, you've already demonstrated your ignorance and under-education with your confusion of archaeology with other scientific disciplines. And with your reliance on Cremo, who is not an archaeologist nor speaks for archaeologists.

Do you have anything to say about the archaeological evidence?

CFeagans said...

Clearly you believe one or more of these quotes, many of them completely without or out of their contexts, to qualify as evidence.

Which would you consider the single most convincing and I'll gladly comment on it. Should you not be able to isolate a single most convincing of these quotes, then we should take that as tacit admission of a lack of evidence.
